Crannóg - Collaborative Knowledge Exchange for Learning Impact by CrannógCrannóg (Crannóg Project)

The Collaborative Knowledge Exchange for Learning Impact – or, simply, Crannóg, for short, is a partnership between NUI Galway, UL, MIC, and DCU, which aims to support the professional development of those colleagues in roles such as Head of School/Department, Dean, etc.

Specifically, the project focuses on aspects of leadership of teaching & learning, and the building of digital capacity/capability. It builds on the work of Ireland’s National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching & Learning, and seeks to encourage the sharing of ideas, the dissemination of research and scholarship, and the development of a professional network.

The project has been curating resources on key topics raised by Heads of School and Discipline in the partner institutions.

ucisa VLE Review Toolkit (ucisa)

About this Toolkit

When ucisa conducted its biennial survey into technology enhanced learning in UK higher education in 2016 it found that around half of the respondents had conducted VLE reviews over the last two years and a further 44% were planning reviews within the next two years.

Discussions on mailing lists, such as that for the Heads of e-Learning Forum (HeLF) also reveal that significant numbers of institutions undertaking VLE reviews are looking to learn from the experiences of others.

We have produced this Toolkit so you no longer need to reinvent the wheel.

The Toolkit is based on a series of interviews with people who have played a key role in conducting VLE reviews recently or who have been through this process a number of times, often in different institutions.

We look at topics such as the rationale for undertaking a review, how to run a review project, the technicalities of conducting procurement and making sure that you actually achieve benefit from all of this.

You can learn from the real-life experiences of institutions like your own and there are plenty of crib sheets and templates to take away and reuse.

Quality management principles by International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) (www.iso.org)

This document introduces seven quality management principles (QMPs). ISO 9000, ISO 9001 and related ISO quality management standards are based on these seven QMPs.

One of the definitions of a “principle” is that it is a basic belief, theory or rule that has a major influence on the way in which something is done. “ Quality management principles ” are a set of fundamental beliefs, norms, rules and values that are accepted as true and can be used as a basis for quality management.

The seven quality management principles are:

  • QMP 1 – Customer focus
  • QMP 2 – Leadership
  • QMP 3 – Engagement of people
  • QMP 4 – Process approach
  • QMP 5 – Improvement
  • QMP 6 – Evidence-based decision making
  • QMP 7 – Relationship management

ELMSLN EdTech Demo by BC Campus (bccampus.ca)
This is an archive page of an EdTech Demo that happened on March 14, 2017

    What is ELMS:Learning Network?

ELMSLN is a fundamentally new approach to LMS design. Instead of starting with 1 giant system, ELMSLN is built out more like Google Apps Suite or the Microsoft family of web applications. It’s often referred to more as a Next Generation Digital Learning Environment (NGDLE) rather then a traditional LMS.

🔖 There looks to be a webinar recording on this site providing an introduction to ELMS:LN by Bryan Ollendyke.

🔖 Kill-the Newsletter – Great piece of software that converts email newsletters into Atom feeds that can be subscribed to using your RSS reader of choice. I like to try to keep my reading predominantly in one place rather than having multiple spaces to remember to access.

Bookmarked "What is innovation?" by Harold Jarche (jarche.com)

In writing almost 100 posts on innovation since 2007, it’s time to put the core observations together into a cohesive narrative. Here goes.

Innovation is fifteen different things to fifteen different people.

“An innovation is the implementation of a new or significantly improved product (good or service), or process, a new marketing method, or a new organisational method in business practices, workplace organisation or external relations.” —OECD

🔖 Some really interesting stuff. Food for thought…

‘I would like to conclude with this observation about the nature of creative knowledge work.

“Visualize the workflow of a physical job: produce, produce, produce, produce, produce, produce, produce, produce, produce.

Now visualize the workflow of a creative knowledge worker: nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, flash of brilliance, nothing, nothing, nothing.”
    —Jay Cross (1944-2015)

That flash of brilliance often comes from reflection. Creative work is not routine work done faster. It’s a whole different way of work, and a critical part is letting the brain do what it does best — come up with ideas. Without time for reflection, most of those innovative ideas will get buried in the detritus of modern workplace busyness.

“Innovation comes from slack. Slack comes from saying no. If you’re afraid of both, no startup bubble technique is going to help you.” —Cory Foy
